The Historic Amador Sawmill is demonstrated at the Amador County Fair each year.
For more information, visit www.amadorcountyfair.com.

WORKDAYS:
Workdays for volunteers are held on the third Saturday of each month through out the year. We meet at Bill Braun's large machine shop or at the mill site on the fair grounds. Both sites are located in Plymouth, California. Call Bill at 209 245-3448 for directions.

The Wednesday before the fair is a set up day. Volunteers are needed to help move the many tons of restored antique machines into place and get them started.

Also the Monday after the fair is a tear down day when we move equipment and the thousands of board feet of lumber off the fairgrounds. These set up and tear down days plus the workdays are the time to teach the apprentices and pass on endangered skills.

We have lots of fun learning from each other.

Historic Amador Sawmill

Who we are:
We are a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization supplying rough cut lumber for  museum projects that require timbers with time period saw marks for their restorations. Our sawmill is a turn of the century living history museum in itself run by a 1900’s era steam engine turning a 48” circular saw blade. We are a public benefit corporation and sell only to other non-profits as well to state, county, and city entities.

Where are we located:
We operate the sawmill anytime we have a contract but always put on a public demonstration each year in July at the 4 day Amador County Fair in Plymouth, California. Thousands of folks have viewed this interpretive show of sawmill history since 1970. We have a web site at www.amadorsawmill.org, a business telephone at 209 245-3448, a FAX at 209 245-5097 and an e-mail at info@amadorsawmill.org

What we cut:
We can cut any species of wood but mostly cut Douglas Fir, Ponderosa Pine, White Pine, Sugar Pine, Redwood and Cedar. We try to procure logs from forest fire clearings, donations from logging companies, tree service and home owners and our contract customers.  We can cut any dimension up to large timbers of 18” by 18” by 18’ long.

Sawmill Crew:

Many members of the volunteer crew are current and retired professionals with skills such as carpenters, master mechanics, loggers, crane operators, cat skinners, blacksmiths, steam engineers, truck drivers, and business managers. We encourage young students to become volunteers so we can pass on endangered historical skill sets through our apprenticeship program.
