The Historic Amador Sawmill is demonstrated at the Amador County Fair each year.
For more information, visit www.amadorcountyfair.com.

WORKDAYS:
Workdays for volunteers are held on the third Saturday of each month through out the year. We meet at the mill site on the fair grounds in Plymouth, California. Call Bill at 209 245-3448 for directions.

The Tuesday and Wednesday before the fair are set up days. Volunteers are needed to help prepare the restored antique machines for operation. Also the Monday and Tuesday after the fair is for cleaning and preparing equipment for layup. These set up and tear down days, plus the workdays, are vital to preserving the machinery and passing on the skills to future generations. We have lots of fun working together and learning from each other.

Who we are:
We are a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization supplying rough cut lumber for projects that require timbers with time period saw marks for their replication or restorations. Our sawmill is a turn of the century living history museum in itself run by a 1900’s era steam engine turning a 48” circular saw blade.

Where are we located:
We operate the sawmill anytime we have a contract but always put on a public demonstration each year in July at the four day Amador County Fair in Plymouth, California. Thousands of folks have viewed this interpretive show of sawmill history since 1970.

What we cut:
We can cut any species of wood but mostly cut Douglas Fir, Ponderosa Pine, White Pine, Sugar Pine, Redwood and Cedar. We try to procure logs from forest fire clearings, donations from logging companies, tree service and home owners and our contract customers.  We can cut any dimension up to large timbers of 16” by 16” by 16’ long.

Sawmill Crew:
The crew come from diverse backgrounds with varied levels of skills. The common thread that attracts all is to preserve and operate the sawmill, restore related artifacts, and preserve the history.

Call us for your specialized needs:
We are an authentic source of rough cut lumber to the rustic-built, restoration and museum trades. We have cut rough timbers and lumber for such organizations as the Historic Kennedy Gold Mine, Jackson, Ca.; Amador County Fair, Plymouth, CA.; the Fiddletown Preservation Society, Fiddletown, CA; and the Plymouth Children’s Playground.
